Help starfish expand to make an impact in more women’s lives

Updated: Dec 2019

The team pays regular visits to local brothels — visiting women trapped in a cycle of exploitation. Starfish Project continues to offer a safe haven for women looking trying to escape.

Starfish Project has made a growing impact each year, helping hundreds of women reinvent themselves. But their Beijing Riverside location is now at capacity — making it difficult to invite more women to get the support they need.

So, Starfish Project has recently opened up a new space — allowing relief services, training, and employment opportunities for more women. By making a donation, you can help Starfish project expand to a new location — opening the door of opportunity to thousands more women exploited in the sex industry.

Visit Starfish Project’s expansion campaign to help get the new hub up and running. Or if you’d prefer that your donation go directly to a particular woman, visit the #EducateHer page. Donations of any sum — small or large — are most welcome.

Mission 🙏

Making an impact for over a decade, Starfish Project has been empowering exploited women in Asia. They started as an NGO offering grassroots women support services, and have grown into a full-on NGO social enterprise — providing basic necessities, medical care, vocational training, and family counseling services to women coming out of exploitation.

It wasn’t until after a year in operation, they starting the production of modern jewelry to raise funds for their charitable initiative. Their fashion accessories are so in demand, that a lot of people first learn about Starfish Project simply because their trendy products look great — only later to learn the meaningful social services the organization provides.

Starfish Project is committed to socially responsible jewelry production and sales. Their website even publishes an annual report to maintain transparency, and show its supporters how every single RMB has been recycled back into their female empowerment services.

Even small purchases of a single piece of jewelry make a big difference in the lives of trafficked women. To date, Starfish Project has employed over 150 women in Beijing — and reached thousands more through their multifaceted community programs:

  • Identifying and reaching out to exploited women
  • Providing safe housing, life’s necessities & health care
  • Providing career counseling & job opportunities
  • Providing vocational training & educational opportunities
  • Reuniting mothers with estranged children
  • Facilitating all forms of female empowerment

To solve a social problem most other people cast shame upon or ignore altogether — Starfish Project invites women and girls to experience freedom, develop careers, and restore hope.
